Welcome to the Helston Plougasnou Twinning Association

When Helston Town Council received a letter from Plougasnou requesting a Twinning with Helston in 2010, the Council voted to pass the request to the Helston and District Town Twinning Association (HDTTA) to investigate.

HDTTA hosted a delegation from Plougasnou in May 2010 and in September a delegation from Helston was invited to Visit Plougasnou.

As a result, a formal Twinning agreement was signed by the Mayor of Helston, John Boase, and  The Mayor of  Plougasnou,  Yvon Tanguy, in June 2011, It was re-signed in Helston in September of that year, by The Mayor of Helston and M. André Constant representing  Plougasnou’s Mayor.

Plougasnou is in the Bay of Morlaix, and is about 40 minutes’ drive from the ferry terminal at Roscoff.  It is a popular holiday destination with a beautiful coastline and its two harbours and moorings are used for leisure and fishing. The municipal camping ground is near one of the beaches and there are several privately owned sites in the area.

There is a diving school, a sailing school and boat trips can be organised to visit the Bay of Morlaix, the Ile de Batz and the Chateau du Taureau, the fort built in the bay to protect Morlaix from attacks by the English.

Both the Twinning Associations in Helston and Plougasnou are keen to strengthen the twinning links with each other by bringing likeminded people together and encouraging clubs, associations, youth groups and schools to explore the possibilities of making visits. The Plougasnou twinning group raises funds to cover the costs of visits of groups from Plougasnou and by hosting visitors in our own homes, many strong friendships are made
