Welcome to the Helston Plougasnou Twinning Association

Our twinning started in 2010 when Plougasnou wrote to the council requesting a twinning with Helston .  This was passed to the  Helston and District Town Twinning Association (HDTTA) to investigate and subsequently a delegation from Plougasnou visited us in May 2010 and in September a delegation from Helston visited Plougasnou.

As a result, a formal Twinning agreement was signed by the Mayor of Helston, John Boase, and  The Mayor of  Plougasnou,  Yvon Tanguy, in June 2011, It was re-signed in Helston in September of that year, by The Mayor of Helston and M. André Constant representing  Plougasnou’s Mayor.

We have hosted many visits from friends in Plougasnou and they have visited Helston often too. Last year we hosted a group during June.  Guests were shown the local area by their hosts and we had a great evening in St Keverne at the An Gof ceremony, staying on for a pasty supper and a wonderful concert. We spent a day in Penzance for Mazey day and on Sunday had a visit to the Lizard for a meal at Fat Apples and a visit to the Wireless Station.

We are now planning our own trip to Brittany in June, so watch this space.

Both the Twinning Associations in Helston and Plougasnou are keen to strengthen the twinning links with each other by bringing likeminded people together and encouraging clubs, associations, youth groups and schools to explore the possibilities of making visits. The Plougasnou twinning group raises funds to cover the costs of visits of groups from Plougasnou and by hosting visitors in our own homes, many strong friendships are made.
